Pearl Harbor Guide: What to Know Before Visiting Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor Guide: Plan Your Visit Without Wasting Half the Day
A visit to Pearl Harbor in Oahu is very different from stopping at a typical Hawaii attraction. Pearl Harbor is a collection of historic sites, and understanding how they fit together can make your visit far more meaningful.
The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center and grounds are operated by the National Park Service and are free to enter. The USS Arizona Memorial program is also free, although reservations are strongly recommended. Other attractions including the Battleship Missouri, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum and Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum operate separately and may require paid admission.
How USS Arizona Memorial Tickets Work
One of the most important things to know before you visit Pearl Harbor Hawaii is that USS Arizona Memorial tickets can be difficult to secure, especially during busy travel periods when thousands of visitors are trying to reserve the same limited time slots.
When you book a Pearl Harbor tour with us, you don’t have to worry about competing for tickets or missing the opportunity to visit the USS Arizona Memorial. We take care of securing the tickets for you, so you can focus on enjoying your Pearl Harbor experience without the stress of monitoring reservation releases or trying to book at the last minute.
Don't Bring Your Normal Day Bag
Pearl Harbor has a strict security policy regarding bags. Rather than arriving with a backpack or large purse and discovering you cannot take it inside, travel light and check the current National Park Service bag policy before leaving your hotel. Storage is available nearby for a fee.
Give Pearl Harbor the Time It Deserves
The mistake is trying to treat Pearl Harbor like a 30-minute photo stop.
Allow time to walk through the visitor-center museums before the USS Arizona program. They give context to what happened on December 7, 1941 and make the memorial experience considerably more meaningful. If you're adding the Missouri, submarine museum or aviation museum, Pearl Harbor can easily become a substantial part of your day.
The Visitor Center currently operates from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Parking is currently $7 per day.
A Better Way to Experience Pearl Harbor
A well-planned Pearl Harbor tour in Oahu should be about more than transportation. Understanding what happened, knowing which sites are worth your available time, and arriving prepared can turn Pearl Harbor from another stop on an itinerary into one of the most memorable experiences of your Hawaii trip.
